If we can sparkle he may land tonight... how to show your admiration to the late and the great Bowie

We all have heroes, we all have inspirations and when we loose them we can really feel the sting. Today, we learn we have lost the Starman himself Mr David Bowie. He was, without a doubt a true design icon, his fashion sense, his album art work, his video direction and his aesthetic could not help but influence, impress, amuse and stir feeling - sometimes all at once!

We are not here to review his diverse musical contribution to our world, as that wil be done by many and really in fact goes without saying. Here we feel a need to express admiration for his amazing visual demeanour and his inability to feel any fear of others opinions - this is without a doubt a perfect example of 'being yourself'. So, with this in mind let us think of how we can add a little 'Bowiesque' attitude when expressing and creating an asthetic yourself - and in turn even honour the man himself in your home.

A great starting place to view his artistic influence was at the V&A museum exhibtion of 2013- as it was jammed packed full of visuals - from throughout his life and although the images, objects and memories they evoked where wonderful - we certainly felt the exhibition somehow lacked something. That something was the biggest thing we can thank Bowie for- a personal touch - Bowie gave everyone, both his lovers and detractors a very personal experience- it is so easy to recall the memory of 'their' Bowie... he spanned the decades and you will never forget the Bowie you call your own. A Bowie you can recognise by a few visuals without hearing a note of his music.

How to express your admiration for the man who amongst other things kept a whole generation of children in the 1980's singing 'you remind me of the babe' and laughing at crystal balls? A trailblazer who gave a previous genration of adolescents the ability to explore their gender and sexuality and infact their whole identity ? A topic which is constantly in the media as we speak - we forget that Mr Bowie was there just being himself decades before. We can only answer one way - express your admiration by being who you are - and with your very own indivduality - as this hero will never truly die - as he taught a generation of people to really just be yourself ( even if this changes every five minutes!!!)

Here in the spirit of his quirky creativity are a few wonderful designer makers that have produced Bowie inspired things for your home, perhaps buy one of these and slot it into your scheme or just start including that famous Ziggy Stardust lightning bolt in anything you design yourself. Paint it on your wall, upcycled furniture or on paper and frame it for display. That lightning bolt alone needs no introduction- it is Bowie... Bowie is and was his art, imagery and creativity.

RIP Mr Bowie you remind me of the Babe... the Babe with the power...
